Welcome to the members' CPD page, which will assist you in completing your annual CPD requirement.

The IoCF introduced CPD for members in 2006, and the requirements are shown below.

What is CPD?

CPD stands for 'continuing professional development'. CPD is just the regular learning we all need to do to stay competent and develop new skills so we're effective and successful throughout our chosen careers. CPD is any kind of learning as long as the subject and activity are relevant to your professional role and learning needs, and there are significant learning outcomes. CPD is something you'll almost certainly already be doing as part of your work as a Civil Funeral Celebrant.

The work of a Civil Funeral Celebrant is about much more than simply applying a particular set of technical knowledge and skills. Communicating with customers, funeral directors and crematorium staff, organizing time and workload, and maintaining records are just some vital elements of the work. This is why we don't dictate what subjects you should cover. We recognise that CPD covers a wide range of knowledge and skills.

CPD REQUIREMENTS ARE: 10 HOURS IN EVERY MEMBERSHIP YEAR, MADE UP OF SELF-SELECTED ACTIVITIES.

What activities count as CPD?

CPD is any kind of learning as long as the activity is relevant to your professional role and learning needs. You can do CPD in many different ways, including:

  • Attending workshops, training courses, seminars and conferences
  • Studying for further related qualifications
  • Planned reading/research, reading trade journals
  • Attending or giving a talk at events such as regional funeral director meetings
  • Meeting with other Celebrants
  • Visiting funeral directors, crematoria or woodland burial sites

Obligation to keep CPD records

Members must keep records of any continuing professional development undertaken and send this to the IoCF upon request.

The Training Record form is available for download below (MS Word format).
