The Institute of Civil Funerals Newsletter

September 2017

Welcome to the latest edition of the Institute update

A very warm welcome to our newest members:

Dee Taylor, Sarah Bertram, Alex Nairn, Deborah Kilby, Claire Streater, Christina O’Dell, Kevin Gibbs, Andrea Bonser, Ros Surtees, Debra Wells, Samantha Mistry, Alison Jiear, Alison Parr, Helen Williams and Helen Dumont.

Council Update

Good Luck!
First of all I would like to wish Christine Jolly, Lindis Pattison-Tadman, May Andrews, Roger Knight and Vikki McKeegan the best of luck with their nomination as part of the Good Funeral Awards which will be held on 7th September.   Each of you would be worthy winners of the Funeral Celebrant of the Year award and our very best wishes are with you all.

New Link
Those of you on Facebook will have seen that the IoCF  now has a link on the Gov.UK website on the ‘what to do after someone dies' pages.

I'm sure you will agree, this is another great step in educating the public about the civil funeral option, and will help to give the Institute greater prominence.

Interestingly, on the first working day after the link went live, Barbara fielded calls about how to get help from an IoCF celebrant and being asked to explain the difference between a humanist funeral and one led by a civil funeral celebrant.  I am sure many more calls will follow.

Insurance Update
Following negotiations with our provider, Council is pleased to announce that the insurance cover provided as part of your membership is to be increased and will now cover both public liability and professional indemnity.   You will receive your 'confirmation of insurance cover' in due course.

I hope that everyone has had an enjoyable summer and has had the opportunity for some rest and relaxation and look forward to seeing those of you attending Conference.

All IoCF members are given free, standard listings on two directories - Funeral Celebrants and FuneralMap.

Both organisations also offer enhanced listings at a fee. For more information on this, contact the organisations directly: Tony Piper runs Funeral Celebrants, and  Trevor Hitchman FuneralMap. Tony can be contacted via the contact form on the Funeral Celebrants website.
