Welcome from the Chair
I was going to write all sorts of 'Chairman-like' words as to why you should think seriously about attending Conference in Birmingham in November. Then I was handed the missive below from a busy, active working celebrant. Her words say it all:
Calling all IOCF celebrants!
If you are thinking to yourself ... £300 for one weekend! Is this worth spending my hard-earned money on? Well, the answer is "yes – most definitely!"
I haven't missed a Conference since I was trained in 2004 and consider it the very best thing I gain from my IOCF membership. Our work is very solitary and the Conference gives us a chance to get together, learn something new and exchange experiences and tips.
The weekend is informative, friendly and a lot of fun and I urge you all to find the money from somewhere and join me, and the other Conference stalwarts, to make this the best one yet.
I look forward to meeting you all there.

There! You've heard the lady - what do you think? See you there!

Website
The website is up and running well. There were some glitches at the beginning and at Council this week we discussed how the very active Forum seemed to have dropped to zero posts. Whatever bugs there were have gone and we are assured that everything is safe. Why not get back to your old ways and start posting?!
If you've any problems with logging in, contact Sharon (administrator@iocf.org.uk)

Conference
On the subject of Conference, birdies whisper that getting there is a stumbling block for some people. If you are driving to Birmingham and can offer a lift to someone, why not post an offer on the Forum? And if you are one of those with transportation difficulties, why not do likewise?

NAFD
We have a new NAFD representative on Council. After stalwart and greatly appreciated service, Angela Allen has stepped down. When you see her workload on training and other matters within the NAFD, it comes as no surprise. We are, however, fortunate to have been able to have Brian Parsons join us. Brian has a wealth of knowledge to bring to the table, not least from his time as Editor of the FSJ. Welcome Brian – we look forward to working with you.

AGM
Although most of you know the AGM arrangements, it is only right that formal notice should be given, so:
The 2012 Annual General Meeting of the Institute of Civil Funerals will be held at Hillcourt Conference Centre, Rednal, B45 8RS at 4:30pm on Saturday 17 November 2012.
NB: There will be an item of any other business. In accordance with custom, it would be helpful that if you are going to raise a 'burning issue' then some notice is given to Council via the Chairman – it's called 'anti-hijacking'!
Kind regards to you all
Peter McNulty
